Sciences, humanities, and the arts approach the natural world and our experience of it from different perspectives. Although traditionally considered as separate disciplines, the desire for a more holistic understanding has intensified the exchange between those disciplines.
Neuroesthetics is one such node of interdisciplinary exchange. The Association of Neuroesthetics (AoN) serves as a platform for interdisciplinary exchange, bridging various approaches to art and human experience. The rapid development in the neurosciences have produced an extensive database of insights that can further our understanding of both perception and appreciation of art and the processes of creativity. The expertise of artists and scholars from the humanities continually engage with questions of aesthetic experience and judgement, aesthetic universals, and the value of art is becoming increasingly relevant to scientific explorations aiming to understand these vital human characteristics
The Berlin based, non-profit organization "Association of Neuroesthetics e.V." was founded to cultivate interdisciplinary efforts and to encourage both a dialogue and lasting cooperations between the arts and the sciences.
AoN’s specific aims are:
–To establish a public forum for interdisciplinary higher education
(AoN Lecture Series, Deutsche Guggenheim CLUB talks/AoN Art and Neuroscience Series, AoN Library).
–To organize international symposia, exhibitions, and publications
(AoN Round-table discussions).
–To develop and support innovative interdisciplinary research projects and artworks
(AoN Projects, AoN Art & Neuroscience Prize).
